Super Dairy Battle Looms for Nocton Dairies
Date: 2010-08-13
Peter Willes speaks out in the Farmers Guardian
"We're not the Bad Guys" say The Farmers behind plans
to build the largest dairy farm in Europe at Nocton in Lincolnshire
are set to resubmit their proposals next month despite continued
protests from animal welfare campaigners and local residents.
Following the publication of a scoping report from North Kesteven District Council and meetings with local residents last week, Nocton Dairies is now finalising its submission with the aim of re-applying for planning permission for the 8,100-cow unit in September.
Local residents refused to back the plans following the public meetings, while welfare groups including Vegetarians International Voice for Animals (Viva!) have warned they will campaign against the proposals.
Peter Willes - ONE of the farmers behind plans to build Europe’s largest dairy farm near the village of Nocton in Lincolnshire has spoken out about the welfare campaigns and media coverage which, he claims, is demonising British dairy farmers.

Vegan Lincs organised the 4th Lincoln Veggie Fayre 2011 on Saturday 12th November, Juliet Gellately Director and Founder of Viva opened the event which was a great success with almost 700 visitors attending the event - with many coming from Birmingham, Sheffield, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire - the feedback was really positive and everyone enjoyed the day. There were lots of new faces, and there were many who had been before - some even were reunited after several years of not seeing each other.
We had a surpise visit from famous Dub Poet and author - Benjamin Zephaniah, who enjoyed the event and sampled some great vegan friendly food - including Yellowbelly's Sticky Toffee Cup Cake! (see www.yellowbellys.co.uk for a short clip of Benjamin's comments on yellowbelly's cakes)
